USD Athletes Begin "Peace Through Sports" Programming to Learn How Sports Can Be a Bridge for Peace and Community
|
Despite differences in religion or political affiliation, sports can be the common denominator and connector between communities. At USD, student athletes will get an opportunity to learn about the history of how sports has been a bridge for peace and connection in a series of events called "Peace through Sports." USD's Athletics departments and leaders at the Joan B. Kroc School worked together to build this programming. On Friday morning, USD's men's and women's soccer team will take part in the first event with guest speaker and former refugee, Sedrick Murhula, sharing his experience in using sports in Mexico and Central Africa to connect people, despite their differences. Student athletes will also get a chance to share how they might envision using their sport in a more community-forward way. RSVP if you would like to attend.
