Governor Newsom Signs Executive Order to Prepare Workers for Artificial Intelligence

Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed a first-of-its-kind executive order aimed at preparing California workers, businesses, and institutions for the potential economic disruptions of artificial intelligence. The order calls on leaders across higher education, state agencies, and industry to identify early warning signs of workforce disruption and develop strategies to help Californians adapt to an AI-driven economy. Dr. Ebrahim Tarshizi, program director of the master’s programs in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Applied Data Science at the University of San Diego, is available to discuss what this executive order means for workers, employers, educators, and policymakers across California.

USD Professors Create Permanent Art Piece for Escondido Park
|
Four USD professors, from disciplines ranging from theater to engineering, have transitioned from creating temporary art for Burning Man to unveiling their first-ever permanent installation, "Threshold Five," in Escondido's Kit Carson Park. Commissioned by the Escondido Community Foundation, the interactive piece features five hexagonal gates designed by the professors' non-profit collective, ArtBuilds, to encourage visitors to pause and shift their perspectives. This unique fusion of art, engineering and community-building offers a compelling local story, and the professors are available for interviews.

USD Men’s Golf is Moving on to the NCAA Championship

USD Men's Golf team is headed to the NCAA Championship. After an incredible postseason run, the USD Men’s Golf team will compete in the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, taking place May 29 – June 3. This is the team's second straight season playing in the national championship.

At the Edge of It All: Serving the Community Through Mental Health Support
|
In this week's episode of "At the Edge of it All," Amanda Cuellar (DNP, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC), clinical associate professor in nursing, talked about her journey working as a nurse in her hometown in the Imperial Valley and how she quickly learned that her region lacked mental health resources, inspiring her to earn her doctorate to fill this gap. Cuellar also shared her emotional journey donating her kidney to a best friend, and a fellow nurse, when he was in a moment of need. Finally, Cuellar discusses the importance of preventative care and why everyone should get annual check-ups.
