University of San Diego - President's Postcard

Dear Toreros,

The past month offered powerful reminders of what makes this university so distinctive — a deep sense of belonging, a commitment to service and a spirit of partnership that extends well beyond our campus. During Grandparents and Family Spring Weekend, loved ones stepped into our students’ daily lives by attending classes, exploring our beautiful campus and engaging with the faculty who live our mission. A highlight of the weekend was welcoming back alumnus and NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick, whose reflections on space exploration inspired all in attendance. His journey is a testament to the boundless possibilities that begin here.

Our shared commitment to service was also affirmed through continued partnership with CaliforniansForAll College Corps. With a new $5.5 million award from the state, hundreds more Toreros will have the opportunity to serve communities across San Diego County while receiving meaningful financial support. Together, these efforts translate education into action and purpose into impact.  A new agreement with the University of Monterrey will strengthen international ties and expand opportunities for research and innovation. At the same time, the Sister Sally Furay Awards reminded us that inclusive excellence is advanced daily by Toreros across every school and division.

Peace,
Jim

Dr. Harris, Matthew Dominick and Eric Hafner

It was a special treat for us to welcome back Matthew Dominick ‘05, NASA Astronaut and USD alumnus to deliver a talk about his experience leading a mission to the International Space Station. Matthew represents the best of USD on a global - and dare I say intergalactic - stage and we are incredibly proud of him.

We also honored him with USD’s Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award for his many achievements and contributions to humanity.

The evening was truly out of this world.
