University of San Diego - President's Postcard

Dear Toreros,

There’s a buzz across campus this time of year as many of our students prepare for the next chapter of their lives. At USD, we pride ourselves on educating students on becoming Changemakers — leaders in their field who will tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges.

Our society needs these leaders more than ever, and as a Catholic university we are blessed to have the wisdom of Pope Leo XIV. As he recently reminded us during his trip to Africa, “What is urgently needed is the courage of new visions and an educational pact that gives young people space and trust.”

In an era of conflict and division, I am hopeful that our Torero community can be a shining example to the world and champions for human dignity — in our interactions with others, the way we show up for our communities, the causes we support and the way we lead with compassion and love.

Peace,

Jim

It was such an honor to dedicate the new Chang Innovation Lab at the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. Thanks to the generosity of Daniel and Caili Chang our engineering students and faculty have a refreshed space where they can put their talents to work and where innovation and entrepreneurship will flourish.
